AUTUMN
Now that the first two seasons have gone, we are looking at the last two, autumn and winter!
WINTER
Autumn is my favourite, but all seasons have their plus sides.
I love the beautiful colours and produce which is gathered at harvest time.
Spring is all about renewal and regeneration, summer is about growth, nurturing and enjoying what was reborn in spring.
Autumn reaps the rewards of spring and summer, and begins to pack things away for the year, whilst winter gives a time for rest and replenishment.
NEW BEGINNINGS
PRACTICE, PRACTICE
Nature has perfected a cycle which has lasted successfully for thousands of years.
At one time, humans lived alongside this cycle, structuring life depending on the seasons.
HARVEST TIME
Sadly, these days are gone, and humans live completely at odds with nature.
We ignore the seasons, the weather, the cycle of plants and animals. We pollute the environment with chemicals, plastics, and carbon dioxide. Now we are seeing and experiencing the result of mistreating our environment.
We have been receiving all sorts of nudges from Mother Nature to alert us that the cycle has been broken. The most recent being the huge shift in climatic change all around the world with disastrous consequences and more to come.
DROUGHT: HOT WEATHER AND NO RAIN
It could be argued that the Covid pandemic was a warning shot, or even the current cost of living crisis. It`s as if we are being told to take heed and alter our ways or we will regret it.
We are so ill equipped to make any meaningful transition, the main example being our dependence on gas from Russia and other countries, which at a stroke is holding the western world to ransom. We are not ready with any alternatives so have to deal with the added stress of the ever increasing price of energy that we need.
We are so dependent on using large amounts of energy in our daily lives that any restriction is seen as a loss of entitlement.
ENERGY USED
It boils down to individual choice. Many people are realizing that life as we know it and expect it to be may not be sustainable.
Small changes when linked together make big changes.
ENTERTAINING AT HOME
By making small changes such as more creative cooking at home with friends instead of eating out, or walking more instead of driving, that not only is it more cost effective but can mean healthier environmental choices too.
LEAVE CAR AT HOME
The government whilst hopefully giving some much needed immediate financial support to the majority of people caught up in the enormous energy price increases, must surely take practical steps too.
By giving assistance in the form of insulation programmes and ways to minimise waste of household and commercial energy alongside innovative long term strategies to lower our carbon footprint, utility costs can be lowered and the economy boosted.
LOWER CARBON FOOTPRINT
Government can`t do it all and we shouldn`t expect it to.
Responsibility for our own actions should be a personal decision and not always one of the state.
The future can be turned around if everyone works together. Life could be quite different and interesting in a new and positive way.
